For those of you who’ve never met Stacy’s dog, Homer the Basset Hound, he’s the absolute sweetest, most gentle dog I’ve ever known. He’s your typical Basset: slow, lazy, droopy eyes and short. About once a week he gets excited and wants to play… for about 2 minutes. He’s really the ideal apartment dog, and we love him a lot. So last Thursday night, Stacy called me while I was up at the photo lab after a shoot with my friend Raul. She was hysterical and she told me that she was walking Homer and another dog (who was on a leash) had attacked Homer as they were smelling each other. What Stacy didn’t know until they returned to the apartment is that the dog had taken a big chunk out of the back of Homer’s large left ear. It was bleeding on the carpet, and she flipped out when she saw it. She called her parents, and then called me on the way to the emergency vet which was luckily across the highway from her apartment complex. They said that it was very fortunate that the dog missed a major vein in Homer’s ear, because he might have bled out if it had been hit. Stacy and I went and found the chunk in the parking lot while we waited for them to finish stitching him up. They had to put him under for it because there really wasn’t any way to keep him still the whole time. The next day we took him to Grammy’s so we could go to San Antonio with Ryan Mo (who was in town for the weekend), and then the medication started wearing off. She said he cried while the whole night, so she gave him some Tylenol, and he got better. The next day, Stacy took him to the vet and got some pain medication. Now it’s a week later, and he’s wrapped up again, because he had a (scheduled) dentist appointment, and they pulled a baby incisor. His regular vet did it, and they also decided the ear wasn’t healing well, so that’s why they wrapped his ear again. He also has his front legs wrapped where the IV went in. He looks cute and like he’s about to go work out at the same time. So this week was hard. It was fun, and totally worth it, but I lost out on a lot of valuable sleep. The All-Student Art Show was announced the same day Homer got hurt, and then our entries were due this Wednesday. That’s right… a whopping 6 days to get ready. Needless to say, one of my two entries was accepted, and I’m ecstatic about that. It’s the first thing I can really put on my resumé, and hopefully I’ll have more to put on there soon. Then Tuesday night someone reminded me that we had a critique on Thursday, so I had to spend Wednesday night in the photo lab again, even though I really needed a break. After the critique on Thursday, I got to spend several hours talking photography and stuff with my professor, Eric, in his office. Even when it’s just a peer, I love talking about photography and learning about people’s experiences and opinions. It’s probably one of the more important things I get out of my nights at the photo lab. And not that anyone reading this cares, but I’ve begun hosting the inFOCUS (our photo club) web site on my photography site (which has also been updated, btw). My mom and Stacy’s parents are all in town this weekend. Surprisingly, there’s not a thing going on, it’s just an interesting coincidence. My Mom and Patty went and looked at the Children’s Museum today and got even more information about a potential caterer. The wedding planning has been stagnant lately because of school. We’ll just have to push it into our schedules along with the end of school. And assuming I pass all 15 hours I’m taking this semester, I’ll only have 9 hours next semester, and then I’m done. Well, done until graduate school, which I’m strongly considering at this point. I know most of you never thought I, of all people, would want to go through more school, but I’m quickly becoming convinced that I’d like to teach photography, and I can’t see myself doing that anywhere but a university.
