I hate shaving. I hate it so much that I usually go at least a week without shaving. And when I finally shave, it feels like I’m pulling each hair out individually. Then there’s the razor burn. Oh how I loath the razor burn. I have a cowlick on my right jawline (and yes that’s how you spell it… I looked it up [and yes I’m so stupid that I’ve had one on my face for years and never known how to spell it]) so I have to shave against the grain, and with the grain, and across the grain, and around the grain. And then there’s the patch on the left side of my face, just by my mouth that invariably gets the razor burn, even if I don’t shave it. It feels the razor approaching from elsewhere on my skin and begins to sizzle. So with the approaching wedding, I have to start getting into a schedule with this shaving crap. And ever since I started shaving off my 5 year old goatee (yes, I’m attempting to play the role of grown-up for the marriage), It’s been even more work to shave. So I actually have a schedule up on my mirror. I want tips. Stacy already told me some dumb Queer Eye for the Straight Guy tips, and they’re stupid. They don’t work. Maybe you have better ones. I have a little over 2 weeks. Teach me, you shaving geniuses. I also hate reality TV. All of it. So… 2 weeks and this site is gone. Kinda’ sad, but completely not. But I also need to have found a job by then. I wish I could find something photography-related, but I’m afraid it’s really not gonna’ happen. And I graduate on Friday. Hooray! CommentsCongratulations man. Which reminds me…I guess I should get fitted for a tux, eh? For shaving, get a shower mirror and do it in the shower, that helps me with the acursed razor burn. What kind of shaving cream do you use? Casey | Thursday, May 13, 2004 | 9:01AM I think the best thing is to have a fresh razor as often as possible. I’m not really one to talk, as I usually go months between changing out razors, but when I do it feels SO good. Another thing that helps if you don’t want to do it in the shower is to do it right before you get in the shower. That way you can keep it from drying out right afterwards. Then put some more aftershave on it afterwards. In any case, I feel your pain. I usually go several days between shaves now as well. I’ve tried shaving every day, and it makes my face look like a slab of raw beef. Big Dookie | Thursday, May 13, 2004 | 11:27AM You can do the whole shaving in the shower and then buy some lotion to sooth your face. Oh, buy the guy lotion. I think these are less oily. Nathan | Thursday, May 13, 2004 | 11:53AM I will have to disagree with the whole shaving before getting in the shower. It is much better to shave in the shower or after because the hot water has softened your hair follicles. Stacy | Thursday, May 13, 2004 | 2:24PM I agree Nathan | Thursday, May 13, 2004 | 2:36PM Then I must grow pipe cleaners on my face, because it doesn’t soften up mine at ALL. =) Big Dookie | Thursday, May 13, 2004 | 4:29PM As the ONLY one to kiss the Big Dookie anymore, i have to agree that there are pipe cleaners on his face! Jennifer | Thursday, May 13, 2004 | 7:33PM Casey, you haven’t gotten your tux fitted yet???? GO NOW!=) I use whatever’s available, which is usually something in a green and red can. And yeah, I put a fog-free mirror on the registry, so I hope someone gets that. I think that because of my writing this entry, my facial hair has rebelled. It was even HARDER to shave today than it has been before! Walker | Friday, May 14, 2004 | 12:16AM Congratulations on your graduation! Jennifer | Friday, May 14, 2004 | 7:36AM I’m usually don’t get razor burn, but shaving every day makes is a lot better than letting it grow and ripping it out every three days. Even a sharp razor will still hurt at that point. It’s less painful when it’s shorter. Colby | Friday, May 14, 2004 | 12:56PM Congrats on the Graduation - kind of scary that they are letting you out in the real world with the rest of us! (j/k) The best thing to do before you shave is to soak a face cloth in hot water then put it on your face for about five minutes - then shave. That opens the pours (also good for the complexion) and the hair will come out easier. We had an uncle who was a barber and I watched him do it when I was little. It’s the way they have done it for decades - even before the fancy triple blade razors of today. If that doesn’t help, then I recommend an electric razor. They don’t shave as close so you don’t have to worry about razor burn. ; ) Lisa (Aunt Lisa to you Walker) | Friday, May 14, 2004 | 4:20PM All Content © Walker Pickering |
