Whew!

Monday, May 3, 2004 | 6:14AM

It’s almost 6am on Monday morning and I still haven’t gone to bed, but I’m wide awake and I’ve been meaning to update for awhile, so here goes.

The awesomest news is that I was recently (Friday) extended an offer to show my work in a gallery space in San Antonio that I frequent with the rest of the group for First Friday each month. I can’t tell you how excited I was to get this offer. As far as I can tell, it’s a solo exhibition, but even it were a group show, it would be awesome. First of all, it’s a great looking space… looks like one of those upscale-ish lofts you see in movies. Second, it’s a super resume-builder. And the best part? They want me to show during August and September of this year. For those of you who aren’t familiar (everyone reading this site) every year, September is designated “FotoSeptiembre”. Most of the galleries in the downtown area of San Antonio showcase primarily photographic work. So my work will be up for that. Great exposure.

I also learned on Friday that one of my pieces was selected for the first Texas Photographic Society Student Show, which was juried by Keith Carter.

All this great news comes on the trail of bad issues with a roommate, who has been majorly disappointing us. Things have gone so (seemingly) smoothly for the whole year, and then we find out that for the past 5 months things have been going downhill right under our noses. Now we’re in incredible debt, but he’s said he’ll pay it off by the end of this month. I get married at the end of this month, so it better be paid off.

And speaking of the wedding, we’ve finally decided on our honeymoon spot: San Francisco. We’ve already booked the flights and hotel, and now we just need places to go. Alcatraz is on the list, as is the SF MoMA. Any suggestions?

My senior show went up last week. We hung on Sunday, and it was somewhat stress-free, but took 8 hours. When we returned the next day, the evil gallery director had moved all of our pieces (she decided to repaint and spackle after we hung) and every single piece was crooked. Not just a few. All of them. Needless to say, we weren’t suprised. Her reputation precedes her.

Despite the last minute glitches and tension, the opening was a hit. The food went in 20 minutes, which was horrible, but I went to eat afterwards with my mom, Grammy and Stacy. My dad also made the trip over, and we all went upstairs to check out some of my current work while the show was still raging. It was one of the biggest crowds I think we’ve had for a senior show opening. Maybe it was due, in part, to the flyer that I made (with help from a ComDes friend of mine).

We had our Color critique on Thursday. It wasn’t anything out of the ordinary, except for the fact that it was my last critique with a lot of people, including Eric. I still have my thesis critique on Wednesday, but that only includes a handful of people. I really will miss everyone. I know none of them will probably ever read this, but that’s ok. It’s for me more than anything. It’s kinda’ funny how you can form bonds with people during such a short period of time, y’know? And to think that my first year of college left me with practically no new friends.

And so now we begin the countdown to the end of CrazyWalker.com. Less than a month left.

UPDATE: I just found that I’m in the newest issue of 28mm, an online photography magazine. Again, very cool.
