This Christmas is Ginormous

Friday, December 24, 2004 | 9:08PM

What better time to update than Christmas Eve. I would’ve written last night, but oh so much has happened since then. We’re in Midlothian visiting the in-laws, and next week we’ll be in Sugar Land and Lake Jackson visiting my dad’s family.

We went to Grapevine Mills today, which is supposedly like a big indoor outlet mall, but is really more like a big indoor regular mall. It’s ridicubig, so we were worn out by the time we were leaving for the first, second, third, and yes, even the fourth time. You might wonder why we “left” so many times. Well, one time was the western store, another was the dollar store, the next was just a false start, and we left the fourth time for real after first making a two hour detour to a place called (I kid you not) the GAYLORD TEXAN. It’s some kind of resort thing North of Dallas. I’ll admit, it’s very nice with it’s giant atrium and Riverwalk-type feel. It had restaurants and everything. But c’mon. Gaylord?

The place is so big and expensive (parking, actually) that we just took a tram that ran from Grapevine Mills. It was neat in that it was perfect weather inside, but felt like you were outside. And that’s been important since I believe the high was probably 32 in Dallas today, and it stayed in the 20s most of the time.

I’ve spent most of the past week being sick with bronchitis. I missed two of the three days we were supposed to work, but so little went on, and I had the sick days luckily. I get sick so rarely that I doubt I’ll need them. But I’ll be using another of my vacation days on Tuesday because Stacy is getting all four of her wisdom teeth removed on Monday, and I get to pamper her a bit. She’s been more concerned with me getting her sick than worrying about the surgery itself. I know mine wasn’t exactly a walk in the park, but it doesn’t seem that most people’s experience with wisdom teeth removal is nearly that bad.

There are six dogs in this house; one for every person.

How goes the wisdom teeth recovery?

She’s not doing too bad. Much MUCH better than I did a few years ago, if any of you remember that. A little swelling, sensitivity to loud sounds, and the vicadin is making her drowsy, but she seems to be recovering pretty quickly. Thanks for asking, man.

Glad to hear it.

Be sure to make up weird stuff and tell her she said it while she was on the pain medication.

For instance, “Honey, why’d you keep asking if I had recharged the dog for your twin sister? I mean, you don’t even have a twin. The dog is charged and ready to go, though. I had a hard time finding the right plug at first.”

Who said I had to make stuff up?

I had an interesting experience today.

I was returning a pair of shoes at JCPenny’s. The sales guy was nice and recredited my card with the full amount. He completed the transaction, handed me my reciepts, thanked me, and then promptly threw up in the trashcan beneath the register.

You know, a little lysol sprayed in those shoes would have prevented that unfortunate event.

Remember that for the future. =)

I threw up 4 times last night….awesome

Stacy | Friday, December 31, 2004 | 7:26PM

Yes it was awesome.
