I’ve been sick all weekend. I very rarely get sick, and the fact that I’ve had bronchitis and what I can only assume is a cold within a month of each other is a bit surprising. I’m sure it’s because I don’t take care of myself, but I’ve really never taken care of myself, so I wouldn’t think that would be it. Of course, my body is probably just getting me back for all those years of neglect. I spent some time cleaning house on Saturday morning with Stacy because we hosted a wedding shower for her friend, Vicki around noon. As the guests started arriving I took our new 1998 Mercury Grand Marquis GS (yes, we are truly big pimpin’) to Discount Tire for new tires. We’re not exactly sparing no expense on this thing, but I’m trying to commit to keeping up with everything on it, and the first step is to get it running in the best possible shape. We need new shocks, and I already installed a new top of the line battery with a great warranty on it. After I got the new tires, I came back to the house and stayed upstairs in our bedroom for the rest of the party. I had already started to feel truly sick, and it really set in once I laid down. My roommate from the last two years, Andy Bain, came over with his family to pick up some of our old furniture for his new apartment here in Austin. He’s going to be working at the LCRA. The money really helps us out with all the car stuff going on. And we finally sold my Civic on Friday to a guy who towed it from the lot up at work. And that was just in time, too. I had a note on the windshield saying that it was a permit-only lot during the day on Friday. Speaking of the car, it’s kind of empowering to get your first car loan. Sure, we have plenty of loan debt when it comes to school, but that’s not really on your own. Heck, your parents’ financial information is considered for most of what you do in college financially, so it’s hard to really feel like that’s your own doing. (Although it’s your responsibility in a very real way that becomes more apparent every month.) But to hear that our credit is extremely good (how could it not be at this point?) and that we’re approved for x amount of dollars is nice. This morning we attended the first service in the new building. It was awesome. LHC was already a great place to go to church, but the facilities are really something else. There were quite a few traffic problems, but it was no big deal. Caedmon’s Call actually performed tonight for a dedication service, but we didn’t really want to try to deal with that traffic. After all, there were three total worship services, but only one service for tonight. Still, it would’ve been cool. Jami Smith will be performing in a few weeks there. This week is supposed to pick up down at the House. It’s pretty neat to see people in person up close on a daily basis, and then see them on the news and in the paper. The Speaker of the House is on the cover of Texas Monthly right now. I actually know his wife on a first name basis. I think that’s pretty cool. She’s a nice lady.
