I started this entry over a week ago and didn’t publish it because I had so much more to write. And now, of course, there’s even more to write. So instead of posting two entries (and having the older information overlooked), this will be one giant entry. Skim as usual. My friend Polly and I have been volleying opportunities back and forth between each other for a few months now, and it’s really paid off. A short history:
This might not be big news to most people, but because of very simple networking, I’ve reached one of my major life goals just shy of a year out of college. The Wittliff Collection is essentially this amazing photographic catalog/gallery/collection at my alma mater comprised of thousands of beautiful (and often times quite famous) photographs. And now that I’m going to have the chance to be a part of it. Well, let’s just say I was speechless when he told me. And I had the chance to talk to my former professor, Nine François again at a dinner with a group after a student show we all attended. Talking with people like her is always incredibly encouraging. It makes me want to never give up on graduate school. We had a representative die in a car accident Friday before last. It really changed the mood of the Floor, but we’re almost finished with session, so the mourning period had to be a bit shortened (which I think is a little unfortunate). I can’t really say much about Representative Joe Moreno, because I didn’t really know him. There are only a handful of representatives that I can approach all that well anyway. But he seemed to have been quite a character and his friends came out in droves. I shot 4x5 Tri-X Pan tonight. I’ve had a box of 50 sheets in the fridge for like 3 years now, so I figured it was time to get after it. I love Polaroid, but regular sheet film is so much more inexpensive. And it’s thick, too! If you have a darkroom directly at your disposal when shooting (as I did tonight) then it’s nearly as quick as shooting Polaroid 55 anyway. This article (sent to me by my lovely wife) is right on target. As an (aspiring) artist, it’s just what the doctor ordered. But it applies to just about anyone, so I’d encourage everyone to read at least the short version, and the long version if you have the time. I”ll admit I haven’t even finished the long version yet, but I’m almost there. Man, I’m tired. CommentsMan, that’s really awesome. Congratulations! I’ll admit that I don’t know a ton about photography, but I do know that that gallery was pretty impressive when I saw it, and that’s quite a feat to have your work purchased for it. Now all we need to do is buy some of your stuff before it gets all famous and super expensive. =) Justin | Tuesday, May 17, 2005 | 4:50PM I’ll give you a few for free. Pony up.” My director just looked at me funny because I literally laughed out loud at that. Thanks a lot Colby. Justin | Wednesday, May 18, 2005 | 9:01AM So who else is seeing “the movie” at midnight tonight? I didn’t want to make a new blog post, as I’m sure I’ll be reviewing it tomorrow…felt redundant. Also, the final entry of that darth vader blog was today. All I can say is wow, that guy did a bang up job. Casey | Wednesday, May 18, 2005 | 12:36PM My pleasure, Justin. =) Colby | Thursday, May 19, 2005 | 10:16PM That is FABULOUS!!
