Tonight was my last night in Southeast Texas, as many of you were unaware. I left Austin Wednesday from work after we took a photo of the Speaker and his wife for the House calendar. Actually, Polly took the photo. I arrived in Orange around 2:30pm and met with my former high school band director for awhile. I caught up with him and arranged to take his portrait the next morning during a slow time. Then I got a chance to see the marching band rehearse (I know what you’re thinking). But this trip wasn’t all about band. I had actually hoped to take more photos than seemed probable, but I ended up shooting around 20 sheets of film, which is certainly more than I’d shoot in most 5 day spans. Still, I didn’t shoot much Saturday because I spent most of the day catching up with folks. Ryan Mo, Justin and Jennifer Walters (and baby, soon), Bryan Stephenson and Hillary Smith. It’s always good to reconnect with people you haven’t spoken to in 6 years. I also spent a lot of time with Brent Faulk on Thursday night, which was great. The downside was that I didn’t get to bed until 5am. I ended up getting the sleep schedule worked back out, but now I’m up at 1:20am, which is highly unusual nowadays. I mostly shot portraits this trip, which figures for me. I’m pretty glad though, because the people I shot were all really interesting and should probably make for great pictures. I’ll be posting them on BeyondMonochrome.com before long. Now I just have to order more film. CommentsYou just named a few people I havent talked to in years, and i feel the need to call them up :) btw this is Carrie Bryant (Rice)! Carrie | Sunday, September 18, 2005 | 4:23PM Carrie Rice! …err Bryant.=) Good to hear from you. I thought that might’ve been you leaving comments recently. What have you been up to? Walker | Monday, September 19, 2005 | 1:31PM ‘Twas me who left you comments. I admire and enjoy your photography work…we always knew you would be some kind of genius :) I am married and i have a son (Ethan)that will be 2 in November, I know I feel so OLD!! I was almost through with my degree at Lamar (History and Business) when we decided to start a family :) I am now in my second year of radiologic technology (xray) school while finishing my business degree. It seems i talk to no one we went to school, but every once in awhile i think about someone (especially all us band nerds) and i get this little twinge of nostalgia! Carrie | Monday, September 19, 2005 | 3:24PM It’s great to hear you’re doing well. So y’all are living in Beaumont? Going up to the band hall was a bit nostalgic (even though they’re in a new facility) but really just made me realize how long ago high school was… and definitely made me glad it’s that far behind us. Walker | Monday, September 19, 2005 | 3:32PM Yes we live in Beaumont aka Boremont…but we are anticipating moving in June when i graduate. My husband is in the oilfield business and this area is not ideal for his career. A move to Houston, Lafayette, or West Texas would be ideal for him. He is from Louisiana and I know there is more to life than SE Texas :) Carrie | Monday, September 19, 2005 | 4:32PM Come move to Houston. My wife and I are bored since none of our friends are cool and live here. =) Casey | Tuesday, September 20, 2005 | 2:58PM Casey! I remember you! I guess you are married now too.
