It took my dad, stepmom and little brother coming to visit to force me to finally clean this place up. The living room has been suffering from a relentless case of urine-stench, thanks to a famous (to us) basset hound. It took the purchase of a blacklight to actually find the problem, and using a steam cleaner didn’t exactly do the trick. But it’s far better than it was. The addition of candles and air fresheners is what has really been making it tolerable in here.
The office/computer room was a huge mess, and the futon on which Carter was to sleep was covered with various photo things. So after cleaning that up and vacuuming, we had a presentable apartment.
While they were in town, we took a tour of SCAD-Atlanta, went to the Coca-Cola museum, went to Buckhead Church, ate dinner at a friend of my dad’s from Sugar Land (who now lives out in Marietta) and drove around various neighborhoods in Buckhead looking at extraordinarily overpriced houses.
On the topic of SCAD-Atlanta, I created a new sub-blog to CrazyWalker about my experiences at SCAD-Atlanta, entitled SCAD-ATL [now merged with this blog]. My primary hope is that it gives future grad students at the school a little insight into the experiences of a single student. I’ve always wanted to come across something like this, so I figured I would just create it. Here’s hoping I’ll stick with it.
Also, while my family was in town, my step mom’s sister and her husband (Joe and Michella) came down from Greenville, SC for the day. First of all, they’re awesome. Second, they’re giving me an electric piano. Keep in mind this isn’t just an electric keyboard… it’s a piano that’s electric, with weighted keys. Weighted keys are one of the biggest differences between a real piano and just a keyboard. Without that resistance, it’s hard to create full dynamic range in music. So yeah, I get one. That is awesome. (Is it totally uncool to say “awesome” now?)
