My thesis class yesterday was wonderful. Steve (Aishman… our professor) brought candy, and we learned to use the Hasselblad H2 with digital back. I’ve never been a huge fan of the 6x4.5 format, but that thing is a beauty. And so we used it with some mono lights and played around to get a feel for the camera. The general policy on equipment at SCAD-ATL is that we must be trained to use it before we are able to check it out. And as of now, things like the H2 cameras (of which we have two) cannot leave the floor, much less the building. The security guards know which equipment is classified this way.
Tonight we are having a potluck get together in the studio
for all of the grad photo students, and potentially the grads in other departments as well. And we will be using the H2s and strobes and shooting and making everyone else envious because we get to use the $22,000 cameras and they don’t. Should be fun.
I just got out of my Contemporary Art History class about 40 minutes ago, and I really don’t dig Abstract Expressionism. I “get it”, but I don’t like it.
I moved everything into my darkroom yesterday before we hit the studio for class, but I’m still short one critical element: an enlarger. I might get the 8x10 B&W enlarger, but I think I’m also going to head out to our storage place and pick up my color 4x5 enlarger for the room as well. I’m pretty sure I’ll have enough room, and if I not I’ll just take it back, as there are plenty of other color 4x5 enlargers to use (and they all seem to be in better shape too, but this is mine and I’m used to it). I’m also taking a trash can that used to be in our kitchen but no longer fits, and some plastic shelves that used to be in our garage, and now we have no garage.

Dude, good blog stuff. Keep it up so I don’t have to email you to drag it out of you. I too love the candy shot. If I had to sum up your life with one photo… I’d have to borrow that one.
