Stacy and I drove 200 miles to Asheville, North Carolina this weekend to see Amy Sedaris at a book signing. I know I sound stupid, but I didn’t expect Asheville to be that beautiful. Honestly, we were just thinking about the idea of meeting Amy Sedaris, and didn’t really care about where we were going. But the four hour drive up into the mountains was breathtaking. Stacy was really more excited than me about the event, so when we arrived in the downtown area of Asheville (which was packed), I dropped her off because there was already a line one block long. It then took me 30 minutes to find a place to park, roughly six blocks away. Though she got in line an hour before the event began, they let everyone in while I was still parking, so we were separated. I had to hear Amy speak from outside the door to the bookstore, but heard a little bit. Then I met Stacy inside only to find she was about 10 people back in the line to get her book signed. (BTW, “I Like You” is a hilarious book and you should buy it.) Amy was very nice to us, and she posed for a picture with Stacy. Stacy mentioned I was her husband, and Amy said something along the lines of ‘come here married girl’ when I was about to take their photo. But my favorite thing is how she signed the book to us: “Sorry you guys broke up. -Amy Sedaris” We drove back to Atlanta that night, because we had left the dogs in the apartment. They were fine, but I think we’d like to go back to Asheville for a whole weekend, so we’ll have to board them next time.

You move to Atlanta and then can travel 4 hours to the east to meet someone you don’t even know! -) Jennifer | Saturday, October 28, 2006 | 2:53PM Dang.
