The great thing about being in a quarter system instead of semesters is the huge break from school before the Winter session. If I remember correctly, we have something like 6 weeks between Fall and Winter. Our last day was a week ago (Tuesday), two days before Thanksgiving. My fellow grad students all hit the road as soon as class was out (and some even left beforehand). The 5th floor (where painting, printmaking and photography are located) is hardly a busy place normally. But it was still crazy how quickly the place had cleared out by the time 4:30pm rolled around.
Grades were supposed to be submitted today, but I haven’t seen them online. One of my professors used Blackboard to show us all of our grades, and the final set showed up last night. However, the official “Final Grades” section of Blackboard remains empty. I tried to login to MySCAD a few minutes ago, and couldn’t access any of my courses, so I’m assuming that the system is undergoing some kind of update.
I will be working during the break for Travis, the guy that heads up equipment and facilities for the Photography Department. This is pretty much a continuation of my role during the quarter as a lab assistant (I don’t know if that’s our title or not) in The Cave, which is where all of the chemistry and equipment is kept and checked out. However, normally I’m work-study, and I think I’m employed differently during the break. The pay is probably the same, though, but I’m not doing it for the big bucks. I started today, removing the Sharpie’d “ACA” labels and numbers with acetone. I’m kind of a stickler for a clean darkroom, and I enjoyed cleaning up fixer stains. But I’m sure it will just make me more of a tyrant when it comes to keeping that place clean next quarter.

I joined The Hive during the Summer, but I haven’t used it since. It didn’t seem like anyone I knew used it, and now we just keep in touch other ways. Are you starting this Winter quarter? When you get to the school, just come to one of the meetings and you’re in.
