Class is great. The new quarter is proving to be great in a couple of ways. I’m taking three classes and essentially auditing another. One of the three classes is the undergrad Large Format class, and I’m the TA. As a grad student, I am required to do two official internships; teaching internships (teaching assistantship) and/or field internships (interning in various off-campus positions). Of course, it’s not really called being a Teaching Assistant, because an assistantship is defined as: a paid appointment awarded annually to a qualified graduate student that requires part-time teaching, research, or residence hall duties. I don’t get paid… I pay for the credit. I pay to teach. Ah well. However, I will TA unofficially every quarter after this for nothing more than experience and lines on my resume. I’m sitting in on the undergrad History of Photography I that Steve teaches because, well, it’s freakin’ awesome. I’ve never ever said that about a history class. My Art Criticism class originally wasn’t very promising, but it’s starting to look up because of it’s openness. Denise and I had a conversation about it, and I’m going to give it a chance. I’m sure I’ll have more to say about it later. If I don’t, you can take it as a bad sign. My final class is Digital Craft II. Last quarter was Digital Craft I, and it was a dismal failure. This quarter’s class is proving to be the exact opposite. It’s essentially about digital presentation: web pages, business cards, CD portfolios, etc. The first half deals almost entirely with web design, and since that’s something I’ve been doing for about 11 years, I use the time to work on various related web projects such as the Photo Awesome Club web site. The second half is when we’ll deal with the other stuff, which I’m most interested in. This quarter I’ll also change jobs, so now instead of working in The Cave and equipment checkout, I’ll be working for Freddie and Ben, the SCAD-Atlanta photographers. It’s a work-study position, but I’ll be shooting a lot, so that’s always beneficial. I finally got a Hasselblad over the break, and it has changed my life. You’d be amazed what a great lens will do for your negatives. It’s so easy to print, I feel like I’ve been doing everything the hard way for years. Finally, in just over a month I’ll be flying to New York City for the 95th Annual College Art Association Conference. Next year I could very well get hired at the job fair portion of the conference, but this year is essentially for practice. I haven’t been to NYC in 10 years, so I’m looking forward to it.
