First Time Teaching

Wednesday, January 24, 2007 | 10:06PM

Tomorrow I’m going to teach my first class. I’ve been TA-ing for the past three weeks, and I’ve really enjoyed it. I’ve essentially just helped students one on one with printing and using the view camera so far. But this is the class where I’ll actually be in charge for the first half. I’ll be showing them how to use the 8x10 view camera, and then Steve will show them developing by inspection during the second half. We’re going to tape my portion of class, and I’m going to put the video online soon thereafter. The only problem is finding a computer with Premiere or Final Cut on it, as the 5th floor lab lacks decent video editing software. You can expect to see the video on WalkerPickering.com soon, assuming I do well.

In well under a month I’ll be in New York with Dave for the 2007 CAA National Conference. This year will just be practice for us (the job fair portion of the conference will be a huge deal next year). We’ll be there February 13-17, and we got roundtrip flights for only $133.80 total. Only thing is, now we have to find a hotel. Any tips?

Also, the New York trip in June lasts two weeks and will be the equivalent of taking two classes (10 hours total), but they’re only accepting 10 photo grads. There are only like 14 in Atlanta, but something like 70 in Savannah. I really hope I get to go.
