So Begins the Last Year…

Tuesday, September 25, 2007 | 2:49AM

Ok, so Película Magazine is on hold temporarily, but it’s really just because things have gotten so insanely busy. This being my last year of grad school, there’s a lot to prepare for. In less than two weeks I’ll be taking part in a small portfolio review here in Atlanta as part of the more-than-month-long Atlanta Celebrates Photography festival. My work will be reviewed by four curators and gallery owners, and the hardest part now is deciding what to show them. I have a small body of black and white prints that are pretty much ready for presentation. And then I have my newest body of color work that I’ve just begun work on. It’s hardly finished, but I am so much more interested in it.

Essentially, the new work has to do with the life that Stacy and I share. It’s more complicated than just that, but at the same time, it’s really that simple. I’ll explain more as it comes along, but I’m pumped about it. It’s also the body of work that I’ll be preparing for my 45-hour review, which comes at the end of this quarter and determines whether or not I get to continue on in the MFA program at SCAD-Atlanta.

In other news, PhotoAwesome is rockin’ along for another year. We have such a great group of people that are really committed to participation, so it’s always exciting to get together. Plus, the web site gets an incredible amount of traffic… not just from our own membership, but apparently also from other people all over the country. I was pretty surprised to learn about that.

And we’ve (I’ve) also begun producing audio podcasts for PhotoAwesome as well. I produced about 30 videos last year, and as a group we produced a total of 60+, so I’ve decided to step back from that and hand it off to other people. I’ll still be working on video, but I’m finding the audio thing interesting and challenging. I know when something’s good if I’m as excited at the end of it as I am at the beginning.

My mom and step-dad are coming to town in less than a week, and we’re really excited to see them. They’re only staying a couple of days, but then going up to Asheville, NC. Hopefully the leaves will be falling, as I expected they would. Last year around this time is when Stacy and I made our first trip to Asheville and inadvertently discovered the beautiful turning leaves of fall in the mountains. Pretty spectacular.

I would update more often, but there’s just enough going on here that it’s not top of the priority list. In the end, that’s a good thing.
